Community as a patient
In community psychiatric nursing entire community is considered as a patient and the whole care in the preventive and promotive aim focus directly on to the community itself. The present health status of the community will be considered and the problems, which is multifacet, that affects the health of the community will be taken in to account and the magnitude of health care facilities provided to the community or the amount of health care services which is benifited by the people of the community will be considered.
Why problem solving in community?
You might have learned problem solving and dicision making skills in the field of nursing administration, but if you think about the roles and responsibilities of the community mental health nurse, who deals with the real problems faced by the community day by day, there are many situations in which she will have to make quick and wise dicisions which will be saving the life of a person, but in case if his/ her dicision is not prudent enough, rather it puts her in soup or dilemme, as the family too do because of her lacking skills in dicition making and problem solving.
Problem solving is one of the important responsibility and skill that a community psychiatric nurse must possess. the reasons, to mention few;
- In community she mostly not depend on doctor
- Community has many health related problems
- The best use of the suitable alternative can be done by the collaborative approach with the people in the community
- Timely problem solving skills will make trhe complications the least and sometimes nil
So think about the problem solving in other areas like administration and apply the same in community , as using it as a problem solving model...
